What We Found: Weak Floor Support and High Humidity

After taking a closer look, we discovered that the problem was coming from the crawl space. The floor underneath the house wasn’t getting enough support, which caused the floors inside to sag and become uneven. On top of that, high humidity in the crawl space was causing the wooden floor jois0ts to bend and warp, making the problem worse.

Another issue was that there was no vapor barrier (a protective plastic sheet) on the dirt floor in the crawl space. This allowed moisture to rise into the air, creating a damp environment that caused more humidity and a musty smell.

Our Solution: Fixing the Support and Controlling the Moisture

To fix the sagging floor, we installed 18 crawl space power posts. These posts lifted the floor back into place and gave the wooden joists extra support to prevent further sagging. Next, to stop moisture from causing more problems, we laid down a 12-mile vapor barrier on the dirt floor, along the columns, and on the walls that were below ground. This barrier helped seal the crawl space, keeping moisture out and reducing the humidity. Finally, to keep the crawl space dry and prevent future moisture buildup, we installed a commercial-grade dehumidifier. This dehumidifier is set to keep the humidity at 55%, which helps control moisture and keeps the air fresh.

The Result: A Stronger, Drier Home

After completing the work, the homeowner’s floors are now level, and the squeaky sounds are gone. The musty smell is no longer a problem, thanks to the vapor barrier and dehumidifier. With the humidity under control, the crawl space is dry, and the wooden floor joists are protected from warping. Most importantly, the home’s foundation is now stronger and more stable, ensuring that the house will stay in good shape for many years to come.
